That approach probably wouldn't work well with the Inform version.  
Neither the Z-machine nor the Glulx VM support dynamic libraries.  It
might be possible to check for a text file in any of several likely 
places without requiring user intervention.  But most people who use 
Z-machine games prefer to just present the VM with a game file and not  
have to bother with anything else. 

In the meantime, I'll see what I can come up with regarding a NetBSD 
package of robotfindskitten (POSIX version).
